How To Get A Physical Agent Modality Certification

By Christa Jarvis

A physical agent modality or PAM pays a major role to any therapy services for many years. It has been proven that the use of this technique helped a lot of people who have experienced pain and discomfort. In traditional manners, it involves ultrasound, electrical stimulation, shortwave diathermy and even light therapy. They work by transmitting a frequency of energies from low to high level and applied to the tissues for stimulation. These can be done by using the manual therapy procedures.

These are also used by many physical therapists as a great technique for the preparation of rehabilitation. Once they are being used during and after a therapy session, most of the modalities also help to enhance every effect of the treatment. It helps to decrease the movement, reduce muscle pains and spasms as well as stiffness. These techniques should be administered by therapists who undergone proper training. Thus, it is essential for everyone to gain physical agent modality certification to become qualified.

Heat is a common modality in use of ultrasound. It is a kind of method using a high frequency sound waves and a level of conversion of the energy to heat. Actually, a sound wave is applied to the skin. A Gel substance is also applied to enhance more the transmission of a sound to the tissues. Since, it has the ability in heating a deeper tissue, ultrasound is perfect in treating scar tissue, joint pains and muscle spasms.

Another form of technique is the electrotherapy. Usually, it is also the use of electrical currents in order to treat diseases. Most of the currents are transmitted by electrodes placed in either under or on the surface of your body which are connected to the circuits. Most of the electrodes are placed in the tissues with catheterization or surgery. The stimulation of the electrodes can also be done through pacemakers and control and the rhythm of the heart.

Aside from that matter, it also help to stimulate every muscle through the urinary bladder and diaphragm as well. The electrodes can also relieve the level of pain when they are implanted in the spinal surface. The surface in the body can help to avoid muscle pains and give a temporary relief after the surgical process.

The transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation is an electrical modality that controls the pain. It provides a constant electrical stimulation and guided by the peripheral nerves via electrodes. It is used to minimize the frequency that may cause a release of the opiates and could also lessen the sensation of pain and can be applied for acute and chronic pain.

It is also helpful for any post surgical situations. It is useful in treating individuals who have suffered pains. Moreover, the neuromuscular electrical also provides a continuous current to strengthen the muscles, increase the range of motion and facilitate a muscle contraction.

The current is usually applied via electrodes to every muscle in order to produce the muscle contractions. The current will be interrupted in allowing the muscle to relax between the length of the pauses and contractions. These are controlled by the physical therapist. This type and other modalities as mentioned are all administered by a well trained professional and all precaution measures should be observed.

Overall, in performing the therapy with the use of the modalities, professional therapist is needed to successfully complete the task. Thus, it is essential for a therapist to undergo certain training programs to obtain their certifications. It also indicates how well they are in handling a task successfully.
